Eh, well I called it Final Fantasy IV, so I guess it's only fair. Plus, while I don't think DQ3 has ever been localized here as anything but DW3, I sure would like it to be.

heh, im just busting your balls, really. i personally dont care if anyone calls it one way or the other, just that you have been so adamant about calling it DWIII, is all.

Yeah, Syd, I see how you are.
You slap down your top ten RPGs in a heartbeat, but you still haven't slapped down your top 10 MTG cards in my thread!

Top RPG's. I don't really have an order other than FFIV is the best one.
* KOTOR
* KOTOR II
* Secret of Mana
* FF IV
* FF VI
* Lufia 2
* Dragon Quest/Warrior III
* Borderlands
I generally don't consider these games RPGs but I like them very much, I consider them to be Action/Adventure, however some of you guys are arguing otherwise so here they are:
* Assassin's Creed II
* Link to the Past
* Darksiders
* Twilight Princess
* WoW
RPG's I am having trouble getting into:
* Mass Effect
* Alpha Protocol
* Neverwinter Nights 2
RPG's that I did not like:
* Tales of Symphonia
* FFVIII (I stopped with the series because of this game)
RPG's I am ashamed to have never played:
* Crystalis
* Baldur's Gate
* Neverwinter Nights
* Mass Effect 2
RPG's I am proud to have never owned (I have played in stores or on other people's game systems):
* Super Mario RPG
RPG's that I just don't give a fuck about because people who talk about them sound like childish fucking dorks:
* Earthbound
RPG's that I thought were good, and most think are great, but I don't like enough to make my top list:
* Dragon Age Origins
* Oblivion
* Wind Waker
* Ocarina of Time
* Dragon Warrior (If the pace at the end wasn't so slow it would be a top game, the last 3 levels are a huge grind)
* FF
* Chrono Trigger
* Lufia

Ten is just not enough. I would include Wild Arms 3 and Suikoden 1 instantly if there were more places.

Not enough love for Final Fantasy VI here. I would have problems with picking my list, but I do know that Final Fantasy VI would end up on top.

I only picked LttP and Diablo 2, which I don't consider RPGs, because other people were picked stuff that aren't RPGs. Mass Effect? Not an RPG. KOTOR? Not an RPG. Final Fantasy Tactics? Not an RPG. And if Dragon Age is anything like Diablo, it's not an RPG either.
Under the very specific definition I have of RPGs, Crystalis doesn't really count either.

Denying KOTOR the label of RPG is insane.
If you don't think that KOTOR is an RPG title, you have not played it or you are mentally handicapped. Mass Effect is more of an Action RPG, so I can see where you might think it isn't a true RPG, still the RPG elements in it outweigh the action elements.
Lastly, Dragon Age is nothing like Diablo unless every game that uses swords, magic, and demons is truly the same genre. It is everything like KOTOR and Mass Effect but with altered math, story and graphics.

Any game which has real-time combat is not a proper RPG. Does KOTOR not have this?

Most people who play the game select to have turn based battles. From it's customization down to it's D&D based rules and leveling up system, it's most certainly an RPG.

Well if you can have turn-based battles, I concede defeat.
I have never played KOTOR, as I give exactly zero fucks about Star Wars Expanded Universe, and my only experience with the game comes from YouTube. The videos I saw showed what looked very much like real-time combat. I apologize.

Well it's real time combat is basically just like Baldur's Gate combat when it's real time. The character automatically slashes and slashes according to dice rolls until the character he's fighting is dead.

Yeah I'd definitely consider KoTOR an RPG. The "Real Time" combat in it really isn't all that different from RPGs with that Active Time Battling in that you select a move or series of moves and it automatically does them for you.
That said here's my list no particular order:
KoTOR
FF V
FF VI
DQ IX
Chrono Trigger
Star Ocean: Til the End of Time
Mass Effect
Diablo 2
Fallout
Fallout 2
