Nope. Browns was deliberate. It was a throwback to OG gangsta Murdar Machene Bling Bling Blllaaaat.
He's before your time.

It's a cool idea, the artwork and the sprites kinda suck though.

Agreed. It looks cool, but it's boring as shit and the controls suck.

Not going to lie...I wouldn't mind this if it was real. It might even even be more playable than Brawl.

It is real. You can download it. It sucks.
There was nothing wrong with Brawl. I'm sorry that they took out the tourneytard-wavedashing-no items-fox only-final destination bullshit that everyone got rock hard about, but that's not what Smash is about to begin with.

Wavedashing sucked. But when you play Melee with people who don't know about Wavedashing, it's easily the better game. Final Smashes, Brawl's overhyped big addition, suck. Luckily, you can turn them off. But you can't turn off the random tripping.
And a lot of the stuff that made Melee cool is gone or worse. The post-match player awards? Gone. The trophy/challenge system? Awarded for nothing but the most obvious and mundane things. The events? Uncreative and easy. The two player events? Even more uncreative and easy. Subspace Emissary was pretty decent though.

Bells and whistles. Events and trophies and shit are fun but at their core they are nothing more than completionist bullshit that's added to the game to extend the longevity of the single player game. The main focus of Smash is, and has always been, laughing it up with a group of friends and having a good time. It's a party game.
Things like unpredictable items and shit help keep people on the edge of their seat. The Final Smashes do this wonderfully. It's really fun when a room full of your drunk buddies start yelling and getting excited when all four players start frantically fighting to get a single Smash Ball. How many times have you played people that weren't as good as you at a fighting game and repeatedly beaten them, only to have the two of you get bored and not want to play anymore? They get tired of losing, and you get tired of being able to constantly beat them with the same tactics.
Random tripping is a strange thing, but it really doesn't happen enough to be as big of an issue as people make it out to be, and it wouldn't have even been included if tourneyfags weren't abusing wavedashing to begin with.

I dunno, I feel like Brawl is too chaotic. Melee had an element of chaos too, but it was a more controlled chaos. Most of the chaos in Melee came from things you could toggle, primarily items and stages. I always put stage to random and left all items on, and we had a great time. Brawl, the gameplay itself feels chaotic. And that's less fun. I don't mind getting smacked around by a Pokemon or smashed by the Donkey Kong hammer or hit by a car in Onett, but I like to feel like I have some control of the situation, and that if I'm a significantly better player, that I should win if I decide to play well instead of playing nice. It never feels that way in Brawl. I mean, I might as well just sit around with my friends and see who get the highest rolls on a D20, because that's what it feels like.
But Brawl does have a great roster and some FANTASTIC levels. I love the Donkey Kong level, especially.
As for the Events, either do them proper or don't bother including them. No one likes half-assed bonus game modes. Mortal Kombat Kart Racing, anyone?

Yeah...Brawl just felt like it has ADD. Almost every stage in this game is scrolling or has something going on in it. The randomness of the items and the camera...just everything about this game has an element of fucking with you in it. Do I want a trophy? Well no longer can I just put my money in the machine, but I have to play a fucking shooter to get stuff. I know they wanted to make a game where people have to spend a lot of time to finish it, but it was overkill...I don't want to have to play a 15 minute match to unlock a goddamn trophy. The only thing I really liked about this game was the Create a Stage.

Create a Stage was also poorly implemented. The only cool thing I ever made was a Reznor SMW stage.

Yeah, there was a lot of stuff you couldn't do with the CAS feature.

I can't say that I've ever felt the way you do about the gameplay and items. In fact, I'd say that they improved the "controlled chaos" of the game. In melee there were tons of items and weapons that I had to disable, and stages that nobody liked to play, in brawl my group leaves items at default and ransoms stages.
I feel that the weapons and items got a careful overhaul, and the option to omit stages fro
Random is awesome. Nobody likes that donkey kong stage with all the ladders.
I got really creative with the level editor and churned out some really interesting concepts, but I can see how people might thirst for more. That's the type of feature that could definitely benefit from downloadable content.

I love the Donkey Kong stage! Not a huge fan of the original Mario Bros. stage though.

Brawl is the first time in the series that I had to permanently turn an item off. The Dragoon. It turns Smash balls off when it appears (I like Final Smashes for the most part) and although the computer has perfect aim (and always seems to aim for me) I can't hit anyone with it.
Brawl is a good game, but it's like comparing Resident Evil 4 to Resident Evil 5. When it comes to a sequel to a fantastic game, everything better damn well be perfect or it "doesn't measure up" to the other game. Any small problem instantly becomes a game breaker. When you look at Brawl as just a game and not a sequel to Melee, it actually looks very good.
Sure Random Tripping is bullshit, the online sucks, and some fan favorites were axed for the likes of ROB and Fox Clone #3 (LANDMASTER!) but it's still a fun game.

Also, what stages did your friends hate in Melee? Because there are plenty of stages in Brawl that use the same concepts. Plus, a third of the stages from Melee are in the game.

Oh no, not the roster debate!
The only character that was removed who wasn't an afterthought clone weirdo was Mewtwo, and in their place we got lots of fun new guys to fuck with. I fucking LOVE Lucario and Pokemon Trainer!
Wolf really isn't Fox 3. True, the Landmaster being used by all three Star Fox characters was lazy (Wolf calling in an airstrike and Falco piloting an Arwing would have been MUCH cooler), but comparing Fox, Falco, and Wolf is akin to comparing Ryu, Ken, and Gouken.
