I'm going to have to say . . . Blue Oyster Cult, but that's because their my favorite band and it seem like everyone is hung up on Don't Fear the Reaper, it's an awesome song but they have so many awesome songs BOC has done (Just to put into perspective how much of a fan of BOC i am, i even like the album Club Ninjia, which even BOC says is their worst album.)
Flaming Telepaths pwns and Burnin' For You is catchy as fuck
Veteran of the Psychic Wars is my favorite. It was the very first song i ever heard by BOC (i didn't listen to the radio much) and it still remands one of their most awesome pieces.
Links, pics, vids . . . I shall post these when given the chance

A hugely underated artist would be Frank Zappa. The man made some of the most complicated music arrangements in his life yet he's mostly known for a couple of comical songs.
Devo is also underated. They have a lot of really great songs and put on a good live show.

I'm not sure if I agree totally. I love Zappa, but I was under the impression that he was generally well reviewed, and I know he is well revered to the scholarly types. I think his musicianship was always recognized to those who understood it. So, I feel like he's kind of where he belongs because his music isn't the type that will appeal to the masses.

That is very true. I think many many years from now he will get the recognition he deserves.

He should not have been allowed to name his children though

I think those names are awesome. The only reason I would ever have kids one day is just to name them some crazy shit. Here's a picture of me and Dweezil Zappa

I think The Clash get a lot of notoriety, but are under-appreciated in the mainstream. They get ripped into a lot by punks nowadays for not screaming or sucking, and the people that say they do now only like them because they like the picture of Simonon smashing his bass or for their poppy hits like "Rock the Casbah" "Train in Vain" or their cover of "I Fought the Law." Meanwhile, they've written really great, insightful songs like "White Man in Hammersmith Palais," that go relatively unnoticed.
That, and I really agree about Zappa. The man has been consistently famous, but most of it isn't because of his musical talent.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Yes, and they are indeed pretty good.
Zappa was an amazing musician, but he was also completely insane. My dad's a huge fan.

Captain Beefheart is one of the most underrated artists ever. The man put out some of the most complicated music of all time, composing it all himself, and he taught Frank Zappa damn near everything he knew.

He's also a painter as well. Too bad he disappeared from the spot light, I've read that he's on his death bed now.
