Ended up being much longer than I expected, certainly didn't feel like an hour while playing it. Had I not been streaming it, I think it would have gone much faster, as it really didn't seem to get along well with XSplit on this laptop. Also, I don't have a clue why the game's music wasn't being picked up, I wasn't even aware of that at the time, and nobody in the stream audience mentioned it. Summarizing by year, since not /too/ overly much happened during the first five years...

Year 1: Built two new residential/commercial rings. They built up nicely over the 5 years, though I replaced too many natural trees with parkland.
Year 2: Built up the industrial area in the upper right corner. The checkerboard pattern works out really well with that. Didn't start building parkland around it yet, as I needed to save every penny toward the airport.
Year 3: Built the airport and an expo. Added parkland around the new industrial zones until I was broke.
Year 4: Started on lowering pollution. Added parkland, removed roads and replaced with railroads (while leaving large sections of zones without power for lengthy amounts of time). Added another residential ring.
Year 5: Continued replacing roads, adding parkland. Built another residential ring with a police department. Also added some additional pointless roads, since they asked for more roads after I bulldozed a lot.

Year 6: At this pont, after I had the save state saved, I went to check the population for Satsui so he could check on where it was in terms of largest cities in the US. This led to folks in the stream asking for disasters to happen, since I hadn't exited out immediately. I obliged, for the sake of stream entertainment, since SimCity doesn't make for particularly great stream material. All of the disasters were cycled through, which took almost the full year. Bowser and the tornado squared off, but missed each other by one block. The fire raged on and destroyed nearly all of the forest east of Bunnytown, while the flood did practically nothing. It was practically impossible to pinpoint where the plane crashed, since so much of the city was already in ruin and on fire. Absolute best part was, after a year of blowing the place up and not making any efforts to put out any fires or do any rebuilding... I still had a 51% approval rating.

So, at this point, the timeline is now split. There's a save state in 1935, with a prospering city and over $7000 for lava to work with, and also a save state in 1936, with a ruined, decimated city and a little bit over $10000 for lava to try to rebuild with, if he so chooses. I certainly hope he so chooses, this has potential to be a lot of fun.

Well, I did Christmas time stuff, so I haven't really started this yet.

Do I have to do both timelines? I'd like to do the "ruined city" one personally.

The "official" timeline is the "un-ruined" one. That's the only one that, by the rules of the collab, you'd be required to do. The ruined city is optional, and quite frankly, we wrecked the shit out of it so badly I'm not sure how we could recover.

But, if everyone else (particularly those of you down the line) is okay with continuing from the ruined city and abandoning the unruined one, we can do that, yeah. DO SOME VOTING!

The ruined city is far more interesting, I vote for destruction.

Actually, here's an idea. We send the "clean" savestate off to one group of people, and send the "disaster" save state to a second, and run the two timelines that way. We'll just call 1935 the Mayan Apocalypse that branches off a separate timeline or something. How's that sound?

Looks like the city is salvageable because the top left part wasn't hit too hard. The population goes down to like 40,000 which is just enough to stay on budget after bulldozing all those broken roads everywhere to cut on maintenance.

I have a question though : Does a building still work if a part of it got destroyed? Some buildings are missing a square (like the stadium) and I'm not sure I want to destroy that, but if they don't do anything I'll just clean them up.

Guys, really need some input on where to go with this. Lava's holding a save state or two and I'd like to know what to do with it.

Well, I added my 2 cents, not sure if anyone who hasn't had a turn as mayor is even around, other than Drew, who I assume could be asked in IRC.

I play to win. I'll take the normal city. If that's how it's going down.

I hate to bring this up now, but I'm sending in my laptop for repairs on Monday. If you guys don't mind waiting for about a week or so while I wait for it get finished, I'll be happy to take my turn, but unless I can squeeze it in sometime tomorrow I don't know if I'll be able to do this round. I'm sorry.

I am curious about the answer to this question, if anyone has it.

The seaport still worked while missing a few tiles. The stadium too. Skyscrapers missing half their tiles still seem to have people in them, but I don't think they get the full population capacity.

Or maybe they do. I couldn't get the sims to go away while leaving the city without power for 40 years, so they probably don't mind living in a building that's missing 2 or 3 sides.

I know they don't, in fact, that's part of the building-stacking cheat that's explicitly banned.

Really, does a city with half-demolished buildings look good?

Destroying them immediately would just have slowed the game down really bad. I tried. I didn't want to give Drew like 500$ to work with.

There's probably enough money to replace a few of them now though.

Does it really matter at this point if any rules are followed? I mean, if you want to stick to the rules then the destroyed city should be thrown away considering that broke the rules of this collab.

Yes. Which is why it wasn't official and was done mostly as a joke. The idea that the ruined city would be kept and the old one tossed never crossed my mind in the slightest.

At the very least, I'm keeping to the spirit, which emphasizes the appearance of the city over the functionality of it.

I don't mind restarting if you want. Partly because I just realized I built an industrial zone over another, broken one Sad

But if I do, I'd like to have clear rules about rebuilding. For example, the seaport could easily go because it's missing 4 tiles, but the stadium (and a bunch of other buildings) are only missing one so they could stay up a bit before they're replaced.

I don't mind bulldozing everything that was damaged (including some gifts) after dealing with the fire though, but that would mean quite a bit of the city would be gone.

Here's what I'm going to do here based upon what I've heard and talked about.
-The ruined city is going to be the official city going forth.
-The unruined city will be an option. If you want to continue the timeline where brave heroes went back in time to stop the vile troll Lager Nis from destroying SydCity, let me know. Yes, if you want, you can work on both timelines.
-Damaged zones must be replaced...eventually. You don't need to immediately replace them, but really, a seaport with a couple of holes in it makes the city look bad and it should be rebuilt. You don't need to treat it as a priority, but just imagine a few thousand sims bitching about it during your term. I don't think gifts can be replaced (can someone look into that, see if a destroyed gift gets offered up again?), so if they're damaged but still functional, leave them.
-The ban on zone stacking still stands (don't restart just because of that, lava. Just have Drew blow up the offending zone when he starts).

Send the state off when you're ready, Lava, and don't forget to send it to me too. Also, remember when we run through the mayor list, it gets randomized again. And if anyone wants to be added or taken off or put on alternate timeline duty, let me know.

Here's the problematic, stacked zone :

I don't have your emails though. Do I send the state by PM on the forums then?

Drew probably hasn't got his computer back. So I still haven't sent the save state yet. The video is uploaded, I'm leaving it unlisted until I send the save.
