Everyone always claims that the Wii was only good for the big major Nintendo first party games, but why didn't anyone play the other good stuff, like Elebits, Endless Ocean 1/2, the Harvest Moon/Rune Factory's, Boom Blox and even things like No More Heroes and Mad World. My Wii collection has never been short of breath and it's always confused be when people say they couldn't find a single thing to play on it. I still don't own things like Muramasa and such either.
And as far as having games like Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect on the Wii is concerned; Why do people care? I'm sure whenever a game comes out on multiple platforms you always buy it for the same system that you prefer. If Mass Effect 3 were to come out on the Wii (and for the sake of the argument, had the same graphics and what not), you would still buy it on your other console of choice. And especially when the Wii U comes out, I hope we don't see the same games from the other systems on it. They need to utilize the tablet to it's full potential before just porting the game over.

My point was that if Nintendo had built a console up to snuff, I wouldn't have had to dish out a few hundred extra dollars to buy another console.

Here's the thing: you didn't NEED to buy another console. You can't possibly play every good game ever, and you're stupid for trying. There simply isn't enough time in a life to do so.
There are plenty of great games on Wii that you can play, enough that you will not run out of games to play if you play Wii games exclusively.
But are they the games you want? That's up to you.
If you want to play Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, buy a Wii.
If you want to play Gears of War, Halo, and Fable, buy a 360.
If you want to play God of War, Uncharted, and Little Big Planet, buy a PS3.
If you want to play Skyrim or Call of Duty, you should probably get a PC.
In the SNES/Genesis days, very few good games were cross-platform. Cross-platform releases were generally reserved for sports games, arcade ports, and crappy budget titles based on TV/movie licenses.

except for EA. EA had a lot of great games that were cross platform back in the SNES/Genesis days

Yeah I don't really care that Nintendo don't get all the thirdparty games. If all the three console makers were doing the same thing, then they would presumably all get the same games, but what would then be the point of three different consoles? No, I vastly prefer the way it works now, where the consoles are somewhat different (arguably not as much between 360 and PS3 though), and they all get different games. In that way, there is more diversity in the video game industry, and it can possibly satisfy more people.

Plus when games are cross-platform, they pull bullshit anyway. Like Soul Calibur 2. Or
Resident Evil 4, now with more content.
Don't worry, all those critically acclaimed games the Wii missed out on will be coming to Wii U, now with extra missions and shit.

Soul Calibur 2 did best on the Gamecube did it not? And Resident Evil 4 did phenomenal on the Wii. Makes it look strange that Soul Calibur 3 was a PS2 exclusive and no more real Resident Evil games were developed for Wii.
